A result of the partnership between Airstar Aerospace and ALTAVE, the White Hawk is a compact elliptic-shaped tethered balloon for low and medium altitudes. Requiring only three operators for deployment and fold up within 30 minutes, the solution fits in a 14m³ vehicle. It offers a payload of up to 35kg and can operate with winds of up to 60 km/h.
By exhibiting at DSEI, the two companies cement a dynamic collaboration which was instigated at the Paris Air Show when they signed a partnership to make the White Hawk available in Europe.
Romain Chabert, managing director of Airstar Aerospace commented: “The White Hawk isn’t just an aerostat but an entire system dedicated to short and medium duration operations in surveillance, observation and telecommunications. Dedicated to the Defence and Security industries, it allows missions requiring autonomy or a stationary status to be carried out. Featuring a patented automated take-off and landing system, it answers the needs of UAV operators perfectly.”
The White Hawk offers 360° surveillance and is capable of operating continuously over five days without any intervention while transmitting high resolution footage, making it an extremely cost effective and enduring solution.
The global market growth for aerostats, which was valued at USD5.42 billion in 2016 and is expected to reach USD10.95 billion by 2021 *, can be attributed to increased demand in a number of sectors: surveillance from national security bodies and states; routine intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; large air-telecommunications network and climate research to name a few.
ALTAVE used their tethered balloons to keep watch over the Rio Olympics sites last year and they have also been used to monitor public gatherings and rallies, flow of migrants, border control, drug smuggling, as well as strategic sites and traffic routes. Now their expertise comes together with Airstar Aerospace in The White Hawk, a turnkey solution optimised for the surveillance of large scale events.
As exclusive European distributor of The White Hawk, Airstar Aerospace has ensured compliance with European regulations before integrating it to its tethered balloon platform offering. Maxime Guichard, business development manager for the Defence and Security markets at Airstar Aerospace, explains: “We operate on two levels for the distribution of The White Hawk: we are responsible for adapting the electric parts of the balloon in order to guarantee its European compliance, and we also provide our expertise in tethered balloons and air control to our clients, helping them to obtain the necessary authorisation to fly the solution in their respective countries. We are therefore capable of offering a global tethered balloon turnkey solution.”
Romain Chabert concludes: “By exhibiting at DSEI, we can demonstrate the expertise of both companies in a current political context where security is increasingly at stake.”
Airstar Aerospace will also be represented at DSEI by the EDEN cluster, which gathers French SMEs specialising in defence, security and safety.
